This magnified picture of a shingle shows typical deterioration of an old shingle. All these tiny cracks allow water to absorb into the shingle and through the roof. Its called sponging. As bad as it looks, this roof can be rejuvenated. If you look in the attic, on the back side of the sheathing, you will see many signs of leaks and seepage. When old shingles break down they can actually act more like a sponge than a shingle.
This is the point where roofers will tell you that the roof needs to be replaced. This is also the point where our rejuvenant works best. It actually soaks into the porous shingle and reconstitutes it. Then when we apply our final coating it locks onto the shingle and seals the roof like new. The process also locks the stone on the roof so that there is little, if any more stone loss. This process can be repeated every five years giving your roof a virtually unlimited life.
Our process begins with inspecting the roof. The most obvious problems are black mold, moss and lichens. We look at the exterior roof to see if there are obvious signs of damage. Then we look at the inside of the home to see if there are signs of leaks or seepage. Once we inspect the roof we can give you an exact figure as to the cost of the job. If the price is agreeable we will schedule the work and get it done for you.
When our truck gets to the job site we will set up and start by cleaning the roof. We use a gentle, low pressure cleaning process. All of our cleaning products are child and pet safe. These products are environmentally safe, biodegradable and will not harm your plants or water supply. When we finish cleaning your roof it will look so clean that you will think we're finished, but now we need to protect the roof. Most roof cleaning companies tell you that all you need to do is clean your roof and it will add years to the roofs life. This is just not true. The fact is that each time you clean your roof you lose some of the stone. If you clean the roof every two years, as the roof cleaner suggests, you are washing years off of your roofs life. Our process adheres the stone to the roof and preserves the shingle in the state that it is in. Thats why we can guarantee the roof for the life of the house when you renew our process every five years.
The picture above is a roof showing the three phases of our process. I did this for illustration purposes. Bear in mind that this is a roof that is over 35 years old and the shingle only had a 15 year guarantee on it. This is the most extreme case we have, or likely will ever deal with. The roof didn't leak, but there were many signs of seeping.
On the left side of the roof you can see the dead lichens and mold. This was after we treated the whole roof with our eco-friendly roof cleaning product. The center portion is cleaned and treated with our roof renew product. The right side of the roof has a final coat of our rejuvenant on it. In 2014 we will be back to repeat our process and renew the guarantee for another five years. Below is a close up after finish coat.
